In this charming upbeat class children will learn the basics of drawing /creating characters and explore the ways in which they will develop their character design skills. Their character development will morph into joyful clay design and ultimately a sweet short little claymation animation.

Exploration in Character Design and Animation

This 5 day camp explores character creation and design in both 2D and 3D forms.

Through drawing, mixed media and sculpture students will learn different ways of bringing a character of their imagination to life.

Students will learn basic cartooning skills, experiment with different illustration and animation techniques (pencils, pastels, water colors, sculpey, puppet-making, stop motion), and end the camp by creating a short clay animation of their characters "coming to life" using the free mobile app Stop Motion Studio.

This class is a great introduction for any youngsters interested in drawing, character building, story-telling and animation. Consider this class a doorway into the creative world of moving images - the basic knowledge of beginner animation can be reapplied to many different forms.

Materials preferred for this camp: a phone, and a tripod for it.

During the camp, there will be a field trip to Granville island where students will create their own stop-motion film to get used to the free mobile app Stop Motion Studio.

If students could have access to a cell phone this day - (with the app installed, and accessible to wifi) this would create the opportunity for more films to be made, as the instructor only has her own personal device.

If you have any questions about this arrangement please feel free to contact our studio and Seresa will be happy to help you.
